The authors of
How Computers Do Math and the creators of the DIY Calculator – Clive (Max) Maxfield and Alvin Brown – are both eminent in the computer and electronic arenas, although Alvin was already eminent when Max’s eminence was merely imminent.

Max (right) is 6’1” tall, outrageously handsome, English and proud of it.
In addition to being a hero, trendsetter, and leader of fashion, he is widely regarded as being an expert in all
aspects of electronics and computing (at least by his mother). In fact, Max was once referred to as an “industry notable” and a “semiconductor design expert” by someone famous who wasn’t prompted, coerced, or remunerated in any way!
Alvin (left) is a well-traveled English gentleman, being born in Assam India where his father managed several tea plantations. Alvin now spends a large proportion of his time bouncing around the globe orchestrating multinational software development projects with teams spread across America, Europe, and India.
We are always interested in hearing how you are using the DIY Calculator, and also in
receiving suggestions as to how we can evolve and improve the little rapscallion (and we simply love to receive words of praise
with regards to our book,
How Computers Do Math), so please feel free to contact us as follows:
